EMAIL: crawfordjo@pcsb.org

Greetings — I’m Johnnie Crawford III, principal of Sunset Hills Elementary. I’ve proudly served this school community for nine years. A native Floridian raised in Largo and educated in Pinellas County Schools, I have deep roots here. I’ve been married for 31 years and am the father of three adult children. In my free time I volunteer with Young Life in Largo and Clearwater, supporting local youth through this international outreach organization.

Education: • Bachelor’s degree — University of Florida • Master’s degree in Public Administration — University of South Florida • Master’s certification in Educational Leadership — University of South Florida

Professional Experience and Leadership: During my 29-year career with Pinellas County Schools, my focus has been on improving student achievement, fostering a positive school culture, and strengthening family and community partnerships. For the past nine years, I have been honored to lead Sunset Hills Elementary where I prioritized academic rigor, student-centered support, and programs that expand students’ experiences and talents. Sunset Hills offers enrichment and leadership opportunities such as orchestra, band, chorus, advanced art, color guard & dance, National Elementary Honor Society participation, and a student-run morning news crew. I have had the opportunity to be a classroom teacher at both the elementary and high school levels and have served in administrative roles at middle and elementary schools. These experiences give me a deep, practical understanding of students’ academic and developmental needs across grade levels.

Vision and Approach: As principal, I am committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and academically rigorous environment where every student can grow and succeed. I believe in teamwork among staff, meaningful family engagement, and continuous improvement guided by data and best practices. My approach emphasizes recognizing each student’s strengths and providing diverse pathways for students to develop their gifts.

I welcome conversations with families and community partners who share a commitment to student success & a strong school community.
